Speaker(s): Chris Webb

Title: Create Amazing 3D Topographic Maps In Excel

Description:

Before you read on, watch this video: https://youtu.be/IcfBujIokqY. In this session you’ll learn how to create amazing 3D topographic maps like the one in the video, and along the way learn a lot of advanced Power Query, Power Pivot, and Power Map tips and tricks.

You’ll discover how: • the source data was generated and where to download it • to transform the data (a non-standard text file format) using Power Query and M code, and load it into Power Pivot • to display the data in Power Map using a custom map, make it look as good as possible and create an animated tour.

Event Date: 10-12-2015 16:00 - Category: Breakout Session (60 minutes) - Track: Discover & Integrate

Speaker(s): Ken Raetz

Title: Modular Data Extraction and Integration Patterns

Description:

Engineers and programmers alike have known for many years that when working with complex systems, you must “divide and conquer” to solve problems efficiently and effectively. This pattern of modularizing application code is a fundamental principle of structured programming and system design, and creates reusability and elegance in applications.

With some adaptation, these same techniques can be applied to data integration and analytics solutions with great success. This webinar will show you how to achieve the same great efficiencies and reusability while solving your analytics problems.

Learn the techniques used by information technology professionals! You will also see demos in Excel with Power Query, PowerBI.com, and SQL.

Tools For Exploratory Data Analysis

Back to calendar

Event Date: 10-12-2015 19:00 - Category: Breakout Session (60 minutes) - Track: Analyze & Interpret

Speaker(s): Mark Wilcock

Title: Tools For Exploratory Data Analysis

Description:

In this session we’ll explore a public dataset, the Titanic passenger list. Most people know the tragic event: The RMS Titanic sailed from Southampton on April 10, 1912, hit an iceberg in the Atlantic four days later and sank. Of the 2000 people on board, only 700 survived.

We'll build some rough and ready visualisations and crunch some basic statistics on this dataset using four different tools: Excel and Power Query, Power BI Desktop, R, and Azure Machine Learning. The purpose of the session is to introduce you to some tools that you may not be familiar with so that you can decide which tools you prefer to use to explore your data.
